Challenge
TeamSTEPPS is an evidence-based program developed by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) military health system and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as a response to the 1999 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System. The report revealed between 44,000 to 98,000 Americans die each year as a result of medical errors. Contrast Creative collaborated with AHRQ and their partner, the American Institutes of Research (AIR), to create a series of video modules to demonstrate the core concepts of TeamSTEPPS in a primary care environment.

This toolkit includes eight instructional video vignettes that demonstrate good and poor teamwork of four core TeamSTEPPS concepts: Leadership, Mutual Support, Situation Monitoring and Communication. This module is being tested in primary care settings as part of a project that will run through 2015. Go behind the scenes of this production!
