Duke University Hospital’s annual All Staff program motivates and inspires the hospital’s more than 10,000 employees to embrace a unique system-wide commitment to transforming healthcare in the Triangle by continuing to lead the nation as one of the best places to work, practice medicine and receive care. The All Staff program is strategically designed by Contrast Creative to reinforce actions and behaviors that positively impact quality outcomes necessary to propel a high-performing organization forward. Building an engaged work culture begins with communication. Storytelling is vital to connecting the head to the heart of healthcare. A key cornerstone of an All Staff program are the creation of videos that feature healthcare employees and the lives they touch daily.
Stefan’s Story: The Music of Our Lives introduces viewers to Stefan Stanescu, a volunteer piano player at Duke University Hospital, who performs original compositions inspired by his Romanian upbringing. Despite personal tragedies and challenges, Stefan chooses to serve as volunteer pianist to show his gratitude to the Duke Health community.
Results
Studies show that the most engaged employees are connected to the mission, vision and values of the organization. An engaged employee has purpose. Health care research connects strong employee engagement to key outcomes: employee retention and absenteeism,patient safety, clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction and organizational reputation. Based on survey results, the All Staff program is helping to boost Duke University Hospital’s work culture and patient satisfaction scores. Attendee feedback included:
