COVID-19 is one of the challenges we all face today. It has changed our way of life and impacted the way we live and communicate with each other. At Contrast Creative, COVID-19 sparked creative thinking that led to pivoting our approach to video production. We transformed our studio and implemented robotic and remote “contactless” measures to support social distancing.
A new approach is necessary as stay-at-home orders continue to lockdown businesses nationwide. At the onset of the pandemic, projects froze with not much changing over months of waiting. Contrast Creative had multiple video productions on the books in March 2020, but, like everything else, most came to a grinding halt.
New Normal?
The question we all asked is–What happens next? The news is a daily assault on the mind and heart. Less dire articles focus on “pandemic personalities.” A study from King’s College London says most people fall into three distinct groups: the “Accepters,” the “Sufferers,” and the “Resisters.” Personally, I live by the Serenity Prayer, so I accepted early, and then the next question was how do we adapt? How do we practice agility and thrive despite the new safety rules and regulations.
We began with what we believed to be true—Communication remains vital. What you need to share with your clients, employees and community can’t be silenced, while we wait and hope for our world’s great scientific minds to seek and find a COVID-19 vaccine.
This moment is where creative resilient minds thrive. Immediately, we were asked to help transform an in-person national conference into a vibrant online event. The hurdles were seemingly endless, but we overcame the challenges with an incredible client partner in NCQA who put their faith in our untested game plan. It involved utilizing extraordinary methods to ship and help healthcare thought leaders set up gear in their homes and relying on remote video technology to achieve high quality media. Agile Solutions
Next, we thought about our production studio. Once alive with video productions and upcoming studio rentals, it stood stood idle. Again, we accepted our circumstance and considered our options. We quickly researched, identified and implemented several (non-contact) video production solutions. In our sanitized (per CDC guidelines) on-site studio, for example, we now offer a professional video camera with robotic technology. This allows talent to enter, record, and exit without coming into contact with a single crew member, all while retaining real-time direction and collaboration.
