With the release of Instagram video recently, our video production hearts skipped a beat.
Since the release, the production/editing nerds in our office have been running around testing the new feature out, making little videos (that’s what we do best!), and in the process, we have come up with five reasons why we love the new attribute.
1. You get 15 editable seconds. If you’ve been waiting for your 15 seconds of fame, well, here’s your chance! Before Instagram video made its debut, only six-second videos, incapable of being edited while filming, could be shared. In just six seconds, people were trying to share recipes, or how-to’s, and they weren’t successful. Now with the additional time, you can create instructional videos to help viewers understand your product or service better. Plus, if you mess up on a take, you have the choice to delete it without losing any of your previous footage! (Although sometimes, mess-ups make your video funny, like this one we made…)
2. You can colorize the film. A variety of filters are available. After you film your video, you can choose a filter to add to “hipsterize” or “professionalize” your video. You can elevate your amateur video by adding visual interest; basically, your video looks like you hired a colorizer. Now you can make a brand statement and only use one filter for all your videos, or have fun with them, and explore them all.
3. You can pick your hero frame. Your hero frame is the still picture that represents your video. In Vine, you are stuck with whatever you began filming as your hero frame, but in Instagram video, you have the choice of what people will see first. This gives you full control over making your post the most interesting and clickable (the caption also helps it out). This is your best chance at capturing your audience, so make it interesting.
4. There is no loop feature. Sure, loops can lead to very creative posts, but in some cases, they can be annoying. With Instagram video, your viewers only have to see your masterpiece once or can choose to watch the whole thing again. We don’t have to wait for the video to full-circle in order to share it with a friend. Instead, we just press play!
5. Instagram video gives you another way for your imagination to run wild. We love apps that promote creative thinking, and this is one of them. Since Instagram made its debut, we still use Vine for variety; both offer opportunities for creative growth. But we want to see what you can create with Instagram video. We know it will be fun and engaging!
