Challenge
In April 2012, Duke University Hospital held its third All Staff Event. This event was created for the hospital’s more than 10,000 physicians, staff and volunteers with a goal to motivate and inspire all employees to embrace a unique system-wide commitment to transforming health care by becoming the best place to work, practice medicine and receive care. Videos created by Contrast Creative in partnership with Duke Hospital are integral to the event. Of the videos presented, three are compelling patient stories that feature Duke Hospital teams that work together on behalf of an individual patient. In 2012, Contrast Creative produced the story of Dave Foster aka “Miracle Man” whose attendance at a Duke University basketball game took a dramatic turn when his heart stopped beating. Quick action by emergency medical personnel that included 45 minutes of CPR saved his life.
Result
The inspiring “Miracle Man” story was presented at the 2012 Duke Hospital All Staff Event to an audience of thousands. It appears on the Duke Medicine YouTube page where (to date) it has received more than 4,700 views.
Based on survey results, the Duke University Hospital All Staff Event is having a meaningful impact on Duke Hospital employees by helping them connect hospital priorities with the honor of being able to serve patients during their greatest time of need. It has also been a catalyst for boosting employee and patient satisfaction scores.
